A large continental life company was struggling in a search for a new Group Chief Actuary. Location was a concern, as was the need to build a new actuarial team in an area with a distinct lack of local talent. After one aborted search we were retained to find a person with a mix of the right technical skills as well as strong interpersonal skills, the ability to sit on the main board of the business and to be able to challenge a board of very strong individual egos as well as breaking into a genuinely cohesive senior team.
Forster Chase ran an international search that took in all of continental Europe, the UK and the Far East. Meeting prospective candidates in their home countries and assessing their capabilities against our pre-agreed brief was a lengthy process however we were also under a tight deadline as the client needed to make the hire as soon as possible due to a concerned regulator. After a mere 4 weeks a very strong shortlist was identified with candidates stretching from Dublin to Singapore. The successful candidate was able to start within 4 weeks of the initial interview, much sooner than expected and saving our clients significant expense in hiring an advisory business to cover the interim period.
As ever Forster Chase has maintained close contact with both client and the newly placed Group Chief Actuary and have ensured that the placement was both smooth and efficient, greatly helping with both candidate retention and client relationship management.
